A moving and universal picture book about empathy and kindness, sure to soothe heartaches big and small—now a New York Times bestseller and a perfect gift for any special occasion

When something sad happens, Taylor doesn’t know where to turn. All the animals are sure they have the answer. The chicken wants to talk it out, but Taylor doesn’t feel like chatting. The bear thinks Taylor should get angry, but that’s not quite right either. One by one, the animals try to tell Taylor how to act, and one by one they fail to offer comfort. Then the rabbit arrives. All the rabbit does is listen . . . which is just what Taylor needs.

With its spare, poignant text and irresistibly sweet illustration, The Rabbit Listened is about how to comfort and heal the people in your life, by taking the time to carefully, lovingly, gently listen.

The Power of Listening: A Gentle Lesson in Comfort
In “The Rabbit Listened,” Cori Doerrfeld crafts a beautifully simple yet profound story that resonates deeply with both children and adults. When Taylor experiences something sad, they are inundated with advice from various animals, each eager to help but ultimately missing the mark. The chicken wants Taylor to talk it out, the bear suggests getting angry, and the others offer their own well-meaning but misguided guidance. However, none of these approaches provide the comfort Taylor truly needs. The arrival of the rabbit shifts everything. Rather than trying to fix the situation with words or suggestions, the rabbit simply listens—a powerful reminder of the importance of being present for those in distress. This heartwarming tale illustrates that sometimes what we need most is not advice or solutions but the compassionate act of listening.Doerrfeld’s spare yet poignant text, combined with her irresistibly charming illustrations, create a perfect blend that captures the essence of emotional support and healing. “The Rabbit Listened” is an essential read for young readers, teaching them the invaluable skill of empathy and the comforting power of simply being there for one another. This touching story is a wonderful addition to any child’s library, offering a gentle lesson on how to truly connect with others in their moments of need.

EVERY PERSON SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
It’s rare to have an absolute favorite picture book that surpasses every other children’s book, but this one has been my favorite for over a year due to it’s thoughtful and poignant message for kids dealing with disappointment and failure. I have ordered many copies of this book to gift at baby showers, birthdays, holidays, and also to give to kids and adults struggling with grief. This book is a masterpiece. It deserves all the recognition in the world for distilling a hard concept into an animal-filled story that’s engaging for kids and meaningful for adult readers. I literally cannot sing enough praises about this incredible book.

I adore reading this book to my son. It’s so sweet with a powerful message. Perfect story for children will love! The dust cover came a little dirty but it’s a light colored matte cover, it’s hard not to get a little dirty. The hard cover came in perfect condition.

    Great Children’s Book
This is a great book to use when working with kids in any type of setting. It helps you reflect on the child’s perspective of them needing a moment to have someone just listen to them when they have something sad or bad happen in their life!! I love this book!!

There’s a lot of power in the message. It’s not just for kids. I originally read it on Libby and loved it so much I came here to buy it so we can read it whenever we want.

The most adorable kids book about validation
This is the cutest kids book I have ever read. I teach validation skills and it’s importance to connect adults emotionally. Oftentimes we feel unheard and invalidated when people choose to try to “fix” our problems and not let us just feel the emotion. This book is the BEST way of explaining what validation is to not only a child, but adults reading this book too.I WISH I was the person who wrote this book. I love it that much
