Great product but does require training
Iâve been training my dogs to grind down their own nails for nearly 15 years now, and I havenât trained it to my youngest so I decided to give this a shot hoping it would keep the training board a little more stable. It seems like a great product so far, well made, comes with replacement sandpaper which is nice, and is easy to set up.The only real criticism I will give it is that there are zero instructions on how to use it. Even dogs that like to dig are not going to automatically start digging into this without any form of training. So it wouldâve been nice if they included some basic instructions on how to get the dog interested. The good news for pet owners thinking of investing in this board- there are a lot of really good YouTube videos out there for you. Just look up training/shaping dogs to trim own nails and you should be good.

Dog scratch board for the win!
Trimming a dogâs nails is terrible, and training them to do it themselves is a much better idea! The board is well constructed to sit in an a-frame fashion, and the sandpaper adheres well. I peeled at the corner of the one applied, and it seems it will come off without too much fuss, but I donât want to pull at it till weâve used up this piece, just in case I ruin it. There are 2 spare pieces of sandpaper included though, yay!We are in the early stages of training to touch, but the pup got really excited to get so many treats for just putting her paw up! I basically rewarded her every time she even remotely pawed it, with the plan to reduce the treats gradually as she âlevels upâ. She was starting to really get it, but I didnât want to work it more than 15 mins the first time, just so it stays fun – quit while sheâs excited, right?!? Iâm very sure sheâll have it down in a week or less with me able to work with her 1x/day. If we work it a few short sessions a day itâll be super quick – but that day job gets in the way, ha.When not in use, the board easily folds and slides into a corner where itâs not noticed. Weâre both excited to not trim her nails in the traditional way going forward!

It’s decent
My dog has epilepsy and if he get’s stressed out or basically any big emotions, it would trigger a seizure. I tried to use the electric nail grinder or take him to get his nails cut but both would trigger a seizure. I am also not confident in using cutters as his nails are thick, black, and he senses my stress which in turn makes him stress. I really like the idea of this scratch board and thought I would test it out. It’s a well built board with adjustable height to cater to you dogs comfort and height. My dog was not intimidated at all when I introduce it to him and was able to successfully train him to scratch the pad. However, I was hoping it would reduce the nail length but it just buff out the sharp edges. If I wanted it to shorten his nails, I would have to press and move his paws to scratch the pad many times over with a considerable amount of pressure before I can see a bit of nail reduction. This manual method is very tiring and time consuming but it works. He is 70lbs with thick, hard nails so it would probably work alot better if you dog’s nails are thin.Overall, it worked but I wish it would shorten his nails without my assistance.

Great Idea for Nail Sensitive Dogs!
We got this for our girl that hates the groomers. We try to file at home and she does better with just us doing it, but it can still be a hassle – takes a while and she gets anxious and impatient. Ordered this hoping we could maybe train her to use it. Not sure if she’ll figure it out (or care enough to figure it out) but even still, she lets us handle her paws and she sits as we scratch the pad for her. So even if she doesn’t use it herself, we can still get her nails filed down with no mechanical filer noise and I think that really helps her not feel so anxious! I love that it comes with a stand or it can lay flat as well and I appreciate that it comes with extra scratch pads! Definitely worth a try if you have an anxious pup like we do!

Product review
I am having issues with this product standing up by itself, it will constantly fall over ever if you put the pieces together correctly. Anytime the dogs or cats try using it they knock it over. I do not recommend this product due to the stability of the design.

4.5 star for quality but my pups don’t know how to use it
This is a well-built scratch pad and I love the fresh wood smell when opening the package. The degree of slant is not bad but I wish there were ways to have it perhaps go lower than the lowest angle. The inclusion of felt pads is great!I am not 100% sure how well it will work for large dogs, but small and medium size should work great!Sadly, our pups have no clue what to do with this as they opted to try and chew on the wood rather than scratch their paws on the sand paper.Hopefully we can train them to try to use it as intended.

Great Concept, but Training Required for My Pup!
I was really excited to try this scratch pad, but my puppy is still figuring out what to do with it. His first instinct was to chew on it (puppies, right?), but since the surface is like sandpaper, I didnât want him damaging his teeth. Iâve decided to take the time to teach him how to use it properly. The product itself is sturdy and well-made, and I appreciate that it comes with extra sandpaper replacements. I love the idea of a stress-free way to manage nail care, so Iâm optimistic that with a little patience and training, my pup will get the hang of it. For now, itâs a work in progress! If youâre considering this for your dog, just keep in mind that it might take some time for them to learn how to use it effectively.

Cats haven’t touched it
I got this for my cats, hoping they would scratch it since they scratch everything else in my house (including scratch posts, but my furniture as well). I was hopping this would keep their nails short so I don’t have to trim them as often but my cats have shown zero interest in it. It has been next to the couch and one of their other scratching posts for 2 weeks now and neither of them have touched it. Great idea if my cats would just use it!!
