Would not recommend.
I should have paid attention to the other reviews. The leash seems well built but the retraction mechanism doesn’t work very well. It won’t retract half the time and my dog gets tangled up in the cord. Would not recommend.

Can’t find this Walkabout in many pet stores – love this retractable as you control the length of the cord with your index finger inside the grip – so easy to stop the retraction that way – instead of with my thumb. It’s great.

Petmate Retractable Leash
Do not buy these leashes. The retraction gear does not work at all. The leash rarely retracts and never retracts fully. The brake trigger hangs up and will not release. I bought two for my dogs and cannot use either one. I tried them twice and had two of the worst walks ever. Petmate should be ashamed of themselves selling such garbage. Buy anything but Petmate leashes. These were a complete waste of money and they were not cheap.

Pro: This product has managed to last at least 6 months even with my dog tugging on it.Con: This product does not retract fully and tends to get stuck between the lock function and release.I purchased this product because I had a Walkabout for years until my dog chewed it up. What I did not realize is that there are several manufacturers that make the Walkabout and Petmate is NOT one that I would recommend. It was not worth it to me to purchase this product. I’ve since returned to using the chewed up Walkabout sold/produced by Aspen Pet.

Good leash
I really love these retractable leash. I thought I lost my old one. And I couldn’t find it at the store where I bought it. So I look it up here on Amazon.It’s the best I have use for my dog. The stop trigger on the inside makes all the difference of the world.The only bad thing it’s that I bought the wrong size for mistake. And I notice when I rip it form it’s case. So I can’t return it.

i had one of these for years and it worked great so i made sure I bought the same one again. This newer version is not good. It doesn’t retract well and my dog gets caught in the leash all the time. I returned it to amzn and got a new one same issue. Just has more issues than it should.

This leash is not satisfactory. The retractable spring is much too weak, and does not retract properly when the dog comes back a little ways. As a result, the dog’s feet get tangled up in the leash.This situation becomes more critical when crossing a street, as you must manually gather up the surplus cord so that the dog does not get into traffic. This is potentially a dangerous and life threatening situation.This product should be removed from the market until they get a stronger spring installed.

Bought 2 of the Leases for my small dog and neither one of them retract properly. Not happy at all with this purchase.

It must be for California. The pull was really slack, and got muddy. At -10oC it was really slow. I took it apart, which was difficult with triangle head screws and adhesives. Then I rolled it up tighter 2 times, and sprayed in lots of silicone. Now it works.
