About Us
Thanks for visiting our small biz, Travel Cat.
Emily & Ian here, co-founders (and also, husband and wife). Like many of you, we we inspired by our cats. Our first cat Andie, who we rescued on a whim after finding her abandoned in the back yard of a family member in 2017. We became “cat people” pretty much overnight and quickly noticed there was and still is a lack of products and companies dedicated exclusively to cats.
How did we get our start?
Shortly after we have adopted our first cat, we have decided to launched Your Cat Backpack by Travel Cat.
What problem are we solving?
We are on a mission to help people realize that cats aren’t “easy” because they sleep all day. Cats need enrichment and playtime to live happy and healthy lives.

Seemed comfortable and didnât cover too much
The size was pretty good, got a medium for my girl (12.5 lbs) and a large for my boy (15-16 lbs). It seems pretty secure, neither of my cats have been able to escape from them. The colors are great, they look so cute and stand out. I do think the value for money is pretty good as both my cats are a bit on the older side (2.5 yrs as opposed to kittens) and this is the first time Iâve tried to harness train them so I expected them to take much longer to get used to them, but after only a week they stopped fidgeting so much in them and started playing in them much more! I want to say thats because the harness seems pretty comfortable so they realized itâs really not that bad. While trying to harness train them, theyâve only worn them for a couple minutes each day inside before I take them off to slowly get them acclimated and itâs going well. Havenât taken them outside yet but itâs much too cold here for now anyways.

Does sorta work, but sizing is hard to get pinned down and isn’t a true martingale?
This does seem like an overall wellbuilt harness. However, during a stressful situation our cat was able to completely slip the harness and ran off (she was found later that night up a tree and greatfully came down to go home). I don’t feel that the martingale feature truely works on this harness???? Like all of the parts that SHOULD tighten are instead tacked down with stitching and the buckle component which I guess is supposed to work as the tightening point….. just floats…. it has no mechanism to work against so…. it doesn’t really grip, or grab tighter between the shoulders as I feel I understood the martingale concept. She backed right out of it with a few kicks in her panicked state…. ðOur cat loves the hikes, so we’re still gonna hunt for the best harness for her.

Learning to love it!
I wasnât sure I liked this harness when I first put it on my cat, but after fiddling around with it and getting her used to wearing it, Iâve come to really like it! Let me say this now: the straps on the shoulders MUST BE TIGHTENED for this thing to fit properly. That might sound like a no brainer, but they werenât tightening right when I first tried so I gave up. After messing with them even more, Iâve been able to make the harness fit much better. I bought a small and while I think my 7lb adult girlie could have made due with the X-small, I think the straps have her pretty secured.The first two pictures have the straps not properly tightened and you can see how loose they hang. The last two pictures she is properly fitted and she seems to feel more comfortable. Less of the harness wearing her and more her wearing the harness. She did get spooked at one point and didnât slip out, but I still donât trust that itâs 100% inescapable. So far so good!

Fits well
Fits well. Cats liked it ok. Not escape proof; if they start to back up they can pull out of halter.I have Maine Coon and the quality of the halter didnât hold up to these guys at all. Some of the negatives were their long hair got in the Velcro and it no long stuck together. The sewing on the edging pulled apart and the Velcro patches were coming apart.

My cat Lola here loves going outside. Me the cat owner has great fear when it comes to this. This harness is great. Letâs them more easily and jump without to much restraint. She respects the harness and knows itâs the only way Iâll let her out so she never gets out or slips out. The adjustable clip works great for a snug fit and the velcro has never came loose. Very strong. I wish this shop had more color options but this one is pretty cute. Lola approved â

Safe, secure & comfy
Our Maine Coon mix was going on a big trip and we wanted to keep him secure while transporting him in and out of his crate and in the motel rooms. This harness worked great and he was (fairly) accepting of it. It has a nice, snug (but not pinching) fit. There is no chance of a cat extracting himself from this harness. He did walk âfunnyâ while wearing it, but he seemed to understand it was (temporarily) necessary.

Inconsistent size
I bought the red cat travel harness in the small size for one of my cats and it fit very well. Consequently, I bought the same one in orange in the small size as well for my other cat. I was sent the wrong size twice. The label says it is the small size but it is comparatively way bigger than the red one. It is too big for my cat making it unsafe since she can take it off very easily

After having used quite a few different types of kitty harnesses, this design is by far my favorite. It doesn’t mess up my cat’s fur as much as the simpler designs and the triple safety works well: velcro, straps and the double leash attachments.Unfortunately the “fuzz” side of the velcro they use is weak and disintegrates quickly. My first Travel Cat lasted a couple of months and my second one lasted only 2 weeks. I’ll need to figure out how to sew proper velcro loop material to fix this once and for all. I just wish the manufacturer would invest the extra 50 cents to make this perfect from day one. :-/

Quality seems good. I like the reflective stripe on it. I have a 15 week old kitten and the XS fit a little large around the neck and leg holes but should grow into nicely in a few more weeks.

I love this harness, my cat can’t escape from this one, and there’s room for his future growth. It’s nice and light and breathable as we get hot summers here in Australia. Will send a pic of him wearing it when my kitty arrives. (Tried it on my older cat it’s very comfortable for him).Thank for a great product!
