Let me count the ways in which I love this set of clippers! My husband and I treat our dog like a spoiled little baby, and therefore we don’t particularly like using professional groomers. We don’t like the idea of dropping him off at the groomer’s for the day, and we know he would be super anxious and bark up a storm without us. We do have some mobile groomers in the area, but they have mixed reviews, and when we did use one, our dog was very anxious during his cut. So instead my husband and I decided to attempt the impossible — purchase clippers so that we could do our own dog haircuts! I am so glad we purchased this set of clippers. Not only are they relatively cheap ($30 vs. a couple of hundred dollars like some of the other sets cost!), but they have been working perfectly for a couple of years. The set comes with a pair of scissors, which are helpful for getting some spots that can’t really be clipped easily, like around the paws and around the face/eyes, and the clippers themselves come with multiple guards, for different length cuts. The blade is pretty quiet and it did a good job of not scaring our poor little guy away. While the clippers do get kind of warm eventually, I think they last a good 20 minutes before I start to feel any warmth and that’s enough time for some good grooming (of course, if you need more time, you can let the device cool and start back up again after about 5 minutes). I would definitely recommend these clippers for any doggie parents who want to give their pups haircuts right at home!

Well, I have a long-haired dog with a coarse coat that sheds year-round, and taking him to a groomer for a basic trim was going to cost to the tune of $50 on a regular basis. I decided to just learn to do it myself and grabbed this set.It comes with an instructional DVD and sheet, four guide combs to control the length of the cut, one clipper with a roughly 6′ cord and velcro strap to bind it, a blade guard, oil for the blades and a brush to apply, touch-up scissors and a comb. There are no brushes, hand strippers, etc. included with this set, so at minimum you will need to get your hands on a secondary brush to detangle your dog and something stiff to clean the set with afterward, such as a toothbrush.I have zero experience dog grooming but I was able to get my dog looking spiffy in about 20 minutes on my first try. Once you have read the directions and understood the parts the set is quite simple to use. It feels sturdy; much of the set is plastic but nothing feels loose or flimsy. For the price ($30 at the time of this writing) the set has a decent number of features. 4 comb lengths is plenty for me and you can further adjust the length with a lever on the side of the clipper. It probably wouldn’t be enough control if you plan to show your dog or do this professionally, but just to keep your dog looking neat and not shedding as much it’s perfectly fine. A little caution is required to avoid nicking the dog’s skin, but it’s not difficult to use and the scissors are sharp and easy to handle. There is not very much oil with this set, but you don’t really need much. The part I don’t like that much is the carrying case; it feels cheap compared to the rest of the set. It does the job to keep the items together and out of the way but there is no internal organization, it’s just a hollow plastic case with all the materials thrown in. You wouldn’t want to toss it around too much for fear of something breaking, and the clasp feels thin like it could break off. Another case or bag with some kind of dividers might be a good idea if you plan to travel with this.Note that you need to read the directions. It is way too easy to assume that this is common sense or self-explanatory, but if you have no experience and just bust this thing out you could hurt yourself or the dog. Use some basic caution. The clippers are not especially loud but don’t expect whisper-quiet operation, either–you will probably need to spend some time getting your dog used to them if you don’t want them biting down on them or getting twitchy during grooming. A second pair of hands helps too.
