Cured problematic eating behaviors!
Initially, I just got this to entertain my 7-year-old King Charles Spaniel. I wanted to address boredom as she gets older and a bit less active. However, I could not have anticipated what a tremendous difference this product would create in our lives. For the last five years, I have switched foods many times, trying to get her to be an eager eater — but she leaves her food sitting around for hours or demands expensive mix-ins and water in her food to motivate her to eat, which were causing skin irritation around her mouth due to extensive allergies. She always displayed aggressive air-burying habits, injuring her nose trying to “cover” her food in her bowl. Eating has been a pain for years! This snuffle mat solved ALL of those issues! She now finds meal times entertaining and eats her dry kibble without complaints or resistance. She loves digging around to find all the little pieces. This has eliminated her allergic skin reactions, and her teeth have been healthier as a result as well. This thing is a godsend! I highly recommend it, especially for dog breeds that naturally enjoy digging for food (rat-catching breeds.) Thank you, Snuffle Mat!

My dogs love it
I have a golden retriever & a Cavapoo. My golden figured it out quickly. My cavapoo took a couple hours but now is very entertained sniffing & digging around in it. I washed it before use in cold water and let it air dry to help fluff it up. It seems high quality and it’s a great price! I would buy this again.

Not preferred
The petals on this bowl are made of stiff felt. They don’t separate well. Instead they tend to bunch in places leaving open gaps in the bowl which is where 90% of the food lands basically creating no need to snuffle to find it. If you want the food more evenly or deeply placed in the mat, you have to manually do it which takes time and you get dog food oils on your hands from touching all the kibble. (No thank you)
If you like the felt, I recommend the using a bowl with felt loops vs flat felt petals. But, even better IMO, is the bowls made from chanel fabric. They are way easier to fill and get the food even and deeply embedded without touching the food. They also wash better that felt. There are 2 styles. One with “meadows” for less experienced dogs and one without meadows that’s solid grey and for more experienced dogs. The solid grey chanel is my go-to for my super smart toy Aussie.

I have a weiner dog who wildly intelligent and therefore easily bored. one thing that he can do for hours, however, is dig and burrow. I was looking into getting him something to keep him occupied while I worked from home and needed some time to actually do work and he loves this. it satisfies his digging and sniffing urges, though I don’t forsee this product lasting super long. I wish the base was less flimsy and that the drawstring was a little better.
I have had many big dogs in my life and I don’t know if this would work for a large breed. It’s relatively easy to clean and doesn’t get too dirty. I mostly use it just for digging purposes and not too much for feeding or treats, especially because my doxie has a pointy snout so he’s able to sus the treats out pretty quick.
Overall, this is a good product for dachshunds or dogs that have the urge to sniff and dig a lot but I think you couldn’t use this with larger dogs.
