tl;dr Long length, smooth retraction, solid brake, dim light, somewhat mis-balanced weight.I have various retractable leashes, but after our Labrador Retriever’s recent passing, I decided I didn’t need to suffer using the large heavy ones any longer just to walk our Min Pin, so I’ve been looking for smaller ones, like the Douexio Retractable Dog Leash with LED Flashlight, Douexio Upgrade 3 in 1 Dog Leash Retractable for Small Medium Dogs Up to 66 lbs, Anti-Slip Handle,One-Handed Brake (Green).I’d already gotten another small retractable leash when I noticed this one has a built-in flashlight, so I was excited about that. I walk every morning at 4am without the dog and then walk him later, but if I don’t have to hold both a flashlight and a leash but have them combined, I thought maybe I could take him with me in the mornings. It’s a great idea, but there are a couple problems. First, the light is not bright enough for my liking. Second, the button to operate the light is on the front of the leash under the light itself, which can only be reached with the other hand not holding the leash, which is inconvenient.The leash tape pulls out and retracts smoothly. It’s disconcerting at first to see such a delicate, thin, narrow tape after years of using a much more beefy one for a large dog, but it appears quite strong. Its length, at 16 feet, is 6 feet longer than the other small retractable leash I recently acquired, which I appreciate. While I walk the dogs with no leash extension (I expect them–him, now–to walk beside my left leg and never move in front of or behind me), I also use the leash when we sit in the porch swing, so that he can jump down and investigate on the porch and in a bit of the front yard when he feels the need. (Our labs have never required a leash in the yard, but every Min Pin we’ve owned would escape down the block the second the opportunity arose.)The swivel hook is sturdy, and the opening is plenty large.The brake pause is a push of the brake button, and to set the brake is a matter of sliding the textured button forward. The brake holds well. Just holding the leash while sitting at the kitchen table, the brake is easy to operate while my hand is on the handgrip. But in real life walking situations, the leash is heavy enough that it pulls forward until my hand is no longer fully on the handgrip but on the inch or so below it toward the “end” of the oval hand opening. If I were a large man with large man hands, I think holding the leash might be a little more comfortable.The weight of the leash doesn’t seem too heavy until it’s in use, and then it causes me some wrist fatigue. I think it could be helped if the handgrip were more perpendicular to the leash roller mechanism. Some of my other retractable leashes are like that, and it really does help balance the weight and prevents wrist fatigue.This leash comes with a poop bag dispenser that has a plastic carabiner and a roll of poop bags. There’s not a place to hook it onto the leash body, but it’s easily hooked onto a collar or even the D-ring part of the swivel hook .

Good Retractable Leash For Our Shih Tzu
I ordered this leash for our Shih Tzu, who weighs twelve pounds and is two years old. After using it for over two months, it has been working well with no issues. The product description is accurate. When the leash lock is released, it extends smoothly without jerking or catching. When retracted, it returns smoothly and evenly, bringing the dog back without any fuss. A larger dog might not be effectively controlled by the retraction mechanism.The leash fits comfortably in my hand, is lightweight, and easy to carry. The included dog poop bag and dispenser function well, making it convenient to have a bag readily available whenever needed.The flashlight is bright enough to be helpful, especially for picking up after my dog at night. The included batteries perform well and have a long lifespan.The latch for the collar is secure and stays firmly attached once fastened. Overall, this is a great leash that works well for us, and I would definitely get it again.

Snapped after a couple uses
I was excited to try this retractable dog leash with built-in LED flashlight, as it seemed like a great 3-in-1 product for walking my dog. The leash is lightweight, and the flashlight is useful for evening walks. The anti-slip handle is comfortable, and the one-handed brake function is convenient.However, after just a few uses, the leash snapped. The retractable mechanism broke, and the leash completely stopped working. This was really disappointing, especially since it worked fine at first. I liked the features, but the durability was not up to par.I wouldnât recommend this for dogs that pull or for larger dogs. Ours is still a puppy and about 50 pounds.
