So much fun!
It does everything they say it does. It’s the perfect size for a cat. The ball is hard with a rubber coating on most of it. The charging port has a cover that is easy to open. This ball is not suitable for dogs, especially chewers. The arm that holds the tail is hard plastic. I think a dog would quickly destroy this ball. Use with supervision. That didn’t stop me from trying it out with my dogs. Turn it on, it chirps like a bird, quietly, not at all intrusive if you are multi-tasking or watching TV. It’s fast, too, faster on hardwood than carpet, of course. It lights up, changing colors throughout playtime. It rolls and spins and rolls, changing directions and flipping the tail every which way. If it gets caught on something, couch edge or someone’s shirt on the floor for example, it will time out within a few seconds. It immediately comes to life again as soon as it senses motion. It also times out if it does not sense anything playing with it. My puppies didn’t know what to make of this toy. One puppy chased it around while keeping her distance but still having fun. The other puppy said, “No way!”, and got out of Dodge, though he did come back and watch it warily from 15 feet away. I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. After the initial hysteria, I did try the “normal” mode – i.e, long hold to turn on, then short push to change from “crazy” mode to “normal”. The product description says to start on normal mode. I agree. There is a short user manual leaflet in the box, but I haven’t bothered to read that.

An explosive, durable and smart toy for both pet and owner
My cat, a Bombay Black, already had a battery-powered “smart snake,” but it was slower and more prone to slithering into tight spaces than this careening ball. Otoh, this baseball-sized orb raced across the living room, making a bird-like chirping sound while pursued by my predatory pet. Then it headed toward the dining room, taking a hard right turn into the kitchen before taking a “wrong turn” down the basement steps.
Compared to my cat’s previous toy, this one has the sensitivity of a Roomba Robot and the speed of a Randy Johnson fastball. When moving away from my cat, the ball’s “tail” triggers his predatory instinct; coming at the cat, the toy tests my suddenly frightened pet’s survival skills. It’s an explosive toy–right out of the box (no time wasted for a first charging). It goes 20+ minutes on a complete charge and has not been harmed by bouncing down my hard basement stairs.
The ball’s tail makes it more visible to the cat as well as the owner, who is well-advised to monitor its progress as it attempts to scale a room or an entire floor. If there’s a room with 4 flat, accessible walls, with sparse or no low-slung furniture, the toy should flourish practically unattended. Caution should be exercised when lifting the rubber “lid” for recharging (I lifted too hard and in the wrong place, detaching the lid from the ball. Upon finding a small pointed tool, I was able to reattach the lid, lesson learned).
Start the action by depressing the lid (gently) for 3 seconds; turn off the ball by repeating the action. Shorter presses permit adjustments to the ball’s speed. Bright lights– green, red, blue–signal the status of the ball. Otherwise, operation of the toy should be equally intuitive to owner and pet.

Fun cat toy, stupid charging design
This is a fun cat toy. Some we have tried were so loud the terrified the cats, or had so many blinking lights the cats were put off. This is just about right on sound and lights, and movement is engaging for cats. Nice that it eventually goes to sleep, but cats can get it moving again. One of our three was immediately taken with it and could hardly stop playing (amazingly, he is the oldest: a 15+YO Maine Coon). One is still uncertain. The third is rather scared, but may warm up. We will see. Seems well made and worth the price, though as with all cat toys, there are no guarantees a particular cat will take to it.
I took one star off because this is yet another recent product wth a quite stupid USB charging design. It has a USB-C connector on it, but will not work with USB-C chargers (I tried a couple). Comes with a <12" USB-A to C cable, and you will have to use an old USB-A charger. Luckily we still have one around, but for heaven's sake, not working with USB-C chargers in 2024?? Makes charging this annoying!

Nice Play Alternative (for some cats)
I appreciate the overall construction of the smart cat toy; it is well-made with no apparent structural or cosmetic defects. The fact that it moves automatically, chirps like a bird, and has a swinging tail were all reasons why I ordered it.
For me, this works best in a room with carpet and soft furnishings. It did well continuing to move and change directions when encountering an obstacle. In other rooms, it was far too noisy when it slammed into the baseboards or walls or rolled across the wood floor.
For my cat, it piqued his interest, but as soon as he started to grab for it, the toy went into âsuper fastâ mode, and the tail whipped him hard in the face. It took a while for him to approach it again, and the toy still seemed to randomly go from normal to hyper mode. My cat likes this toy best when it is under a sheet on the floor, and the movement and sound attract him, and he can chase and bat at it without being slapped by the toyâs tail.
Final Recommendation: This is a high-price point toy but a nice alternative for some cats. I wish the play modes would stay where set, and even a slower mode for older cats would be great.
