It’s the first day of fourth-grade for twins Andy and Anna. Andy is a shy boy obsessed with dinosaurs and Anna is an adventurous girl willing to take risks. One day when they step off the school bus, Anna suggests taking a shortcut through a dark alley to get home.
As they navigate through the abandoned alley, they find a mysterious large egg tucked under a bush. They take it home and try to hatch it, careful not to tell their parents who are strict about pets. After building a makeshift nest in the attic, the egg hatches into a friendly baby velociraptor, whom they later name Tennyson, due to his infatuation with destroying tennis balls.
Now they must convince their parents to keep the little dinosaur, while overcoming bad grades and the school bully.

Dinosaurs and children…whatâs not to love?
A truly delightful tale of siblings who found an âeggâ from which a velociraptor is hatched. He eventually becomes a protective albeit destructive member of the Saunders family. This is exactly the kind of book my son would have chosen to read when he was in elementary school. It is also the kind of book I will choose for my grandchildren due to the positive themes: nurturing family relationships; meeting challenges with dignity; and the value placed upon friendships. The entire story is told with humor and imagination. I am looking forward to the second book!

A great adventure
I loved this book! The book does a great job of capturing that wide-eyed sense of wonder and adventure that you had as a kid. It reminded me of my childhood and brought to life the fantasy I had if I were to find a dinosaur and anything could happen. The book does a nice job of inserting humor and wit into its narrative of adventure and what life is like growing up. I would highly recommend this book and wish I had this to read growing up.

A fun read!
My son loves this series. This one was adorable and timely addressed bullying that he was experiencing. It is relatable for kids and weaves the fantastical idea of having a pet dinosaur with real world troubles little kids face.
