Made in Malaysia. My reformed feral picked up on how to use the door after just showing him once, which means if this type of box is new to your cat, they can adjust quickly. The door folds back and resets on the top of the box making cleaning very easy and I can easily get to all of the corners. The box is sturdy and fits my rather large tomcat of 16-18 lbs. The door swings fairly freely even with a storage laundry basket on top of it (about 10 pounds when full). There are notches at the front under the door that easily accommodates a plastic bag to hold one handle while scooping out liter (like a Wal*Mart bag). I can’t speak to the filter adding anything or not as I keep an air purifier within 3 feet of his box. It does seem to keep the mess inside although I bought a mat at Wal*Mart and placed it outside the box to catch any liter stuck to his paws. And yes, I did teach him how to wipe his paws when he gets out of the box. The outside doormat from Wal*Mart is grey and made in America, it’s the kind like we used to have in the 70-80”s that was green with the daisy in the corner (IYKYK). Just in case someone is interested how I taught Ghetto Bo how to wipe his paws, all I did was wait for him to get out of the box. Then I gently picked up his front two paws and did the wiping motion for him. He is a clever chap and realized that it was a great place to scratch as well. I did not try to teach him how to do his back paws because he has arthritis, and his hind quarters are sore. Hope this helps. 🙂

Use with Breeze litter system and Pine Pellets
There were several factors that I needed looking for a litter box. First it is in our entry way so I wanted a covered one so guest would not see poo when they walked in. With that in mind I did not want to trap my kittens in there with all that dust from clay litter and smell. Next since the entry way and kitchen are open and together I did not want the smell to be in my kitchen. I have 2 3 month old kittens right now. I bought this litter box as well as the breeze system from Tidy Cats. You can usually find a $7-$10 off coupon on their website so wait for it to go on sale and it should only cost around $20 (plus it comes with a bag of breeze pellets that you could probably see on craigslist for $5.00 which would bring price down to $15.This Catit Jumbo Hooded litter pan has a door that comes off so the cats are not feeling too stuffy. You can also lift the door and carbon filter piece off to have an open door and skylight so its even more open. I use Pine pellets from tractor supply. It is the same as Feline Pine only $5.00 for 40lbs. When cats pee on pine pellets they absorb the urine and the odor and it turns into sawdust. I use the Breeze box, just the bottom green part, without the white outer shield (as I place the breeze sifter pan inside my Catit litter box. It fits perfectly. This system is working great. It is discreet as you can’t see it or smell it. There are no urine lumps to remove so less waste. I don’t latch the cover on the Catit box. It stays on just fine without latching it. That way I can pull cover off, take out breeze box and empty sawdust from tray once or twice a week. I just throw it out my patio door onto the woodchips I have there. With pine pellets there is no odor, tracking, or dust. The poo sits on top of the pellets or the cats bury it but with the scoop that comes with the breeze all the good unused pellets drop back into pan when shaking scoop so all that is left is the poo. I then put it right in the Litter Champ pail. I also use good cat food (4health from Tractor Supply) which cuts down on the smell of the poo. This is the way to go. You don’t have to use the breeze pads in the tray as it is just sawdust that is in there. However I have been buying puppy training pads at the dollar tree 4 pack for $1. I use this to help with any liquid or if they have diarrhea that does not get dissolved right away and so I don’t have to clean the tray that often. So the upfront cost to do this is Catit Jumbo Litter Box $24.00 on Amazon+Breeze system $20.00 on sale with coupon at Hyvee+ Pine Pellets $5.00 for a total start up cost of $49. $5 pellets will last 2-3 months for 2 cats. So you are looking at $20-$30/year for litter. With the puppy pads being .25 that’s $13.00/yr and you don’t have to use them but for me a $1.00 a month is doable to have less to clean. So at the most you are looking at spending about $3.50-$4.00/month to maintain a cat litter that is little work, does not smell like ammonia, is healthy for cats and people to breath, spells like pine not urine, has the option of door closed or open, plenty big enough for cats to move around even if they are large, no tracking, no sticky lumps in litter box or on litter scoop. The only thing to keep in mind is to switch the cats to a new litter box or litter gradually. I kept the old open box with clay scoopable litter out and set the breeze system next to it. I added pellets to the old litter box and eventually after a week or so I took away the other litter and it is going great.

Large and sturdy
Got this for my kittens so they have to exit from one side and litter doesn’t get everywhere. This litterbox and lid are very sturdy. I removed the door so it’s always open. I love that the top part lifts up so it’s easy to clean without removing the lid entirely. It is more expensive than other similar designs, but in my opinion it’s worth it because it’s not flimsy.
