Works As Advertised, Dog Got Bored Easily
This item is just as advertised, and came with an extra covering for the food/treat trays in case your dog breaks one off while using it. It will fit treats or most regular dry kibble. I loaded it up with my dog’s first meal of the day, and put it down to see if she would play with it. She did come over and inspect it, and finally started nosing around to see if she could get the food. More on accident than anything else, she did figure out to push the center top down so the food would drop into the trays. For about 5 minutes, she ate the kibble and sniffed around, but she had no interest in continuing to push the center down for more food. I tried calling her over and making a big deal about it, being “fun,” but she just went back to her bed. I left it for the day to see if she would come back to it when she was hungrier. She did not. Eventually I pushed the center down again with her paw in my hand to see if she just wasn’t sure how to make it work. She did eat some of the food that dropped, but then walked away. About an hour later, she finally came over and stepped on it herself. Unfortunately this time the center dispenser stuck in the down position, leaving the holes open for the food to all drop into the trays. I was able to get it unstuck, but by that time the food was all out of the center portion. If your dog really, really likes this kind of treat/food dispenser toy then this is made with nice quality parts. It’s solid, and has rubber grips on the bottom so it won’t slide around on the floor. I felt like the door covers were well attached, and appreciated that they gave me an extra one. There are washing instructions on the toy that say not to put some parts in the dishwasher, which isn’t an issue for me but might put some people off. I hand wash most things anyway, so that was fine with me.Overall it’s a nice item, but it just wasn’t a hit with my dog. That doesn’t mean other dogs won’t like it though.

Dumb dog might not be so dumb?
If you’ve read any of my other pet-themed reviews, you’ll see that one of the themes is that my dogs are not exactly… clever. So when my wife asked me to pick up a smart toy, I was unconvinced that it was a good use of time, space or energy. However, shockingly, my dog has figured this one out… pretty easily. Since she’s sort of a greedy eater, we’ve started using this as her primary food bowl. I dunno. Either this is a relatively easy toy, which is possible… or she’s not so dumb, which I am skeptical of, or this is a well designed toy with holes in the right places for smells to escape and let even the dumbest of dogs have a shot at victory. I think it’s the last option — it seems like a well designed product.

Great, but one major design flaw.
Doesn’t take much for dogs to figure out how to get food out. This was my dog’s first puzzle feeder, and this was less than 10 minutes out of the box. She’s still a puppy so we are still training. The problem with this design is the top that has to be hit to deliver, the food is opaque. This does not work with the top of vision the dogs have. No matter how many times I took the lid off to show her there was food there, most dogs would dig at it with her paws because they could see the food.Unfortunately, because the top of it is hazed over, once you put the lid back on it, she would walk away because she could no longer see the food. I tested this with a piece of Saran Wrap, and she started digging at it. So the fact that the top of this is opaque, forces there to be training for the dog to learn how to use it. It would be no different if the whole lid was black. This is a great starter piece, but I would not buy this as a gift unless the dog was already used to puzzle feeders.

    My cat absolutely loves this
My cat hasn’t figured out how to depress the center part to release additional treats, so i keep it full of dry food and just push it once on my way out the door, or before bed. This keeps him busy for a few minutes figuring out how to extract his treats from the 8 little hatches. All plastic construction but seems very rugged despite this, i can’t see him ever breaking this thing!

    Fun doggy toy
I recently got the Dog Puzzle Toy for my dog, and it’s been so much fun to watch him play with it! He was able to figure out how to grab the treats pretty quickly. It’s definitely helps slow down his eating and keep him busy for a while. I love how it’s designed to keep him mentally sharp and entertained. The only downside is that the toy isn’t very secure on the ground. My dog can easily push it around while trying to solve the puzzle. That said, it’s still a fun toy, and my dog enjoys it.

    Perfect
Works my pup’s mind while getting him to slow down as he eats. This product is well made and even has rubber feet on the bottom if you are worried about your floors. I included a video of the very first time my dog used this product. He has done puzzles before so he really didn’t need much encouragement on trying to open the little boxes. For our first round, I pushed down on the center and then opened one of the drawers. He ate out of that first drawer and in the video you can see him not taking very long to figure out how to open the next drawer.I can only upload one video for this review, but I also had a video of him getting frustrated once the drawers were empty and stomping on the center. Once he realized that that refilled the drawers, he easily stomped on the middle. Every time he wanted more food and was only frustrated when there was no more food to come out of the little holes! For reference, the dog in the video is 55 lb. He is a Doberman spaniel mix with a head smaller than the usual Doberman Pinscher. It should give you a good idea of the size though. I easily fit two cups of food in the center hole.
