Excellent, but beware of sharp edges.
This worked 100x better for my girl than an “m-shaped” board. She took to this on the first day, then I had to practically drag her off of it the next. She did manage to get a tiny cut in-between her toes from an edge during the excitement, however. Not a huge deal, I just took half a sheet of heavy grit sandpaper and rounded off all the edges and corners. It took very little effort or time. Happy I purchased this for my girl with EXTREME paw/nail anxiety, especially since her mobility issues make holding her in place for traditional grooming a dicey proposition. Her quicks grow too fast for anyone to keep up with, so this is going to help tremendously with upkeep. I’m a little anxious that she’ll end up quicking herself in a frenzy, but that has nothing to do with the board. Just a gentle reminder for other pet parents to not let their babies keep going at it after a short time. The heavy duty sandpaper works really great, but you don’t want that to become a hazard. My vet and a few others I asked online also recommended scratch boards. I’m glad they did!

This product is really well made! The edges of the board are smooth, no rough spots. The sandpaper is firmly and evenly attached. It comes with replacement sandpaper, which I have not had to use. (My dog is still learning to use the scratching board.)Like any pet product, itâs only as useful as your pet wants it to be, lol. One of my dogs absolutely hates having her paws touched in any way. The only successful way to trim her nails is to have her sedated and have it done at the veterinarian. I am using this board to help with her nails between those visits.This board comes with instructions on how to train your dog to use it. Itâs a game! We sit and the dogs earn treats when they pay attention to the board. First, just when sniffing it or just putting their paw on it, they earn a treat. (I use tiny training treats or individual pieces of kibble). We then progress to scratching the paw down the board.Since my dogs are both food motivated, this is a fun game for both of them, including the dog that has no trouble letting me trim her nails.As mentioned in other reviews, this really isnât helpful for back feet. Depending upon how your dog scratches, it will be uneven wear on the claws, based on the position of each toe. Wonât work on dew claws either. I purchased this as a supplement to our nail care routine, not a replacement for trimming.

Great for 4yo 17lb Chi Mix!!
My chi mix is a cutie but he bites when he gets his nails done. If you have a chi you know their nails grow FAST!I have the double sided and he picked up on it quick. I used the paddle the first time and I would treat him when heâd touch it with his paws. After he learned to scratch it I would put it on the bigger pad and would let him get a little frustrated so that heâd scratch in frustration (I wouldnât normally do this, but since I know he scratches when heâs annoyed I let him do it the very first time only).After the first time using it, he knew exactly what to do the second time without getting irritated!Yes, it will be uneven when you start with longer nails, but be patient and let them scratch every few days (while watching their quicks closely) and they will begin to even out (make sure to walk them on pavement in between if you can.His vet was really impressed and his groomer will now only have to clip his back nails (if you have a biter then you know that this is a blessing).I will update the review if I figure out the back paws, but as a desperate dog mom Iâm THRILLED by the front alone!!
