Replace the grinding band when it appears worn or when it becomes more difficult to file your pet’s nails. Pets need their nails trimmed on a regular basis, usually monthly. Untrimmed nails can affect the comfort and overall health of your pet. Untrimmed nails can cause pets to develop sore feet, legs and hips, well as general discomfort. Success!
Great tool. We have 2 dogs, sizes 55 and 65lbs. 55lb girl is muscley and fights against nail trims to the point that we were having to spend $20 at the vet reguarly to have hers trimmed. We had a guillotine style nail trimmer and you have to be fast and precise to get a trim done. She jerks at the last second making successful trims impossible. It still took 2 of us to trim her nails with this tool but the gradual nature of the tool make it impossible to knick or hurt your pet and you can make multiple swipes and passes, making progress each time, even with the animal pulling away at the last second. Our nailtrim fighter girl gradually calmed down as the nail grind session progressed. The noise freaked her out a bit especially at first. I think as time goes on and with regular use she will grow more comfortable with the situation.Overall A+ purchase for us. This tool came with batteries and replacement pads for under $10 which is cheaper than 1 single nail trim at the vet. You can get a lot closer to the quick and look at the nail as you go to see how close to the quick you are. Little chance of hurting your pup. Less sharp edges created on the nail compared to regular dog nail snips.

Exceeded expectations, especially for the price!
I got this for my elderly rat terrier as the groomer gives her anxiety and I do her nails at home now. I was afraid I’d not be impressed with the device when I first took it out of the package, as it looks cheap and it took quite a bit of effort to remove and replace the battery compartment to install batteries. However, looks can be deceiving and it completely blew me away how well it worked. I think the light could be a bit brighter, but it does work, and the device is otherwise flawless. I’ve owned those as-seen-on-TV nail files before and I had to clip my dog’s nails before I used it to smooth out the edges closer to the quick because they didn’t remove much nail in a reasonable amount of time, but I used the furminator file without clipping first to see how it did, and I was able to do all my dog’s nails in less than 20 minutes without previous clipping. That says a lot because they were about a month overdue as I’ve had chronic health issues recently. My dog did not seem to be in any discomfort, besides the fact that she hates her nails being done in general. It does warn you that the nail can become overheated, so I didn’t spend more than 2 seconds per nail at a time and just went back to them and they didn’t seem to overheat that way. The dreaded clacking is gone when she walks now and the process with this device was very simple. Definitely worth it for the price. The file isn’t even used up yet, it came with an extra, and the replacement files are super cheap as well. Definitely recommend for dog home nail care.

Works, even for my resident spook (after some training)
Decent product. It does take a decent while to trim the nails if they are pretty long to begin with, and if you have a larger breed with thicker nails. I would like to compare it to a dremel, but I havent gotten the chance. I like the plastic guard. I can see it being especially helpful if you have a long hair dog, as hair won’t wrap around. The light is also really helpful to be able to see where the quick is while you are grinding. It is rather loud, which scares a lot of dogs, but here is my experience with this:I got this for my rather spooky greyhound. The first time I turned it on several feet away from him, he PANICKED. Ran into the crate, tried to hide. Getting anywhere near him led to crying. I thought I had just wasted my money and was rather dismayed at first. If you’re in this situation, here’s what to do:(I clicker train, but you don’t need to for this)1. At all meal times, I turned the grinder on and set it down just far away enough from his bowl, that he was aware of it, but would still come eat. By the 4th meal (dinner on day 2), it was standing directly next to his bowl and he was eating just fine.2. A few times a day, for about 3 or so minutes, I would get treats, and take the grinder and turn it on for just long enough that he doesn’t panic, then click-treat. As I was doing this, I would increase the length that the grinder was turned on and decrease the distance away from him, making sure to treat just before he panics.3. Mine wasn’t a fan of getting his paws handled in general, so a few times a day, I would get him sitting, and touch his paw, click, treat. He went from pulling back immediately and crying, to, by the end of the second session of this, laying there calmly and letting me hold and handle his front paws. Back paws took another 2 sessions or so.4. When he is comfortable with having his paws handled and the noise, I would repeat the routine, just touching the bottom of the running grinder to his paw, and treating, so he gets used to the vibration. From here, just work up to actually touching the grinder to his nail, and increasing the length that he lets you do this. And finally, my life changing secret, peanut butter in a kong. Seriously. He went from me being able to just barely touch the nail to the grinder, to laying calmly while I grind his nails with just this addition. All in all, I got this product on Saturday. By the following Wednesday, with maybe 20 minutes of work on this a day, he was letting me grind his nails. I never would have thought it was possible if you told me on Saturday, after seeing him crying and panicking.

I was using a Pedi Paw but it was slow going because it was very weak and would bog down and stop if any pressure was applied.I considered getting a Dremel but Iâm not impressed with the looks of the upgraded nail guide system and neither are many reviewers. So I got the Furminator and it works great. The guard is similar to what I was used to and it makes quick work of my 2 standard (large) poodles nails because the motor is quite strong. I only need to use it on the low speed. Thatâs good because the high speed is very noisy.I saw a few reviews that said it was weak but I use rechargeable batteries and it has lots of power and I can do both dogs in about 20 min with power to spare. There is a design flaw IMHO. The tab that locks the battery holder in place is at a seam where the two halves of the main unit come together. This puts pressure at bad spot and causes the seam to spread at that point which looks like it could break if not careful. I removed the battery holder, put a drop of Crazy glue on the seam at that point and after 30 min inserted the battery pack and it doesnât spread the seam anymore. You get a extra grinding tube but no instructions on how to install it. Loosen the screw on the end of the drum, remove the old grinding tube, install the new one and tighten the screw to expand it to hold the tube firmly in place so it doesnât slip on the drum. Originally the screw on mine was loose so the grinding drum was slipping and moving back and forth on the drum like other reviewers have reported.Donât bother using the included batteries, they are zinc carbon and canât supply enough current. Alkaline or NMHI rechargeables are a must. The light helps you to see what youâre doing. If your dog has transparent nails like one of mine you can check the location of the quick easily by shining the light from the opposite side the nail before grinding from the proper side.To keep the nails from heating up too much do a bit on each nail and repeat. Your dog will be much more comfortable. Trimming the nails every week or two makes it easy and quick work.

Highly recommend this product to dog owners. Clipping of nails is very difficult and chances of cutting the nerve is very high. Bit expensive but worth it.
