This backpack works so well with our miniature dachshund Tootsie. She even laid down and slept in the pop out portion. The backpack is very comfortable to wear and it is well ventilated. Just a word of advice to be aware of where you are in relation to the sun so that it isn’t hitting your dog and then they get hot. The pack is so comfortable that you can forget you have your dog in the back. We are more than pleased with this pack!

Nice but a couple of flaws, will not fit everyone
I really love the design of this backpack. It seems like just what you would need to journey with your cat on a hike or a trip. (I only have cats, I can’t comment on is use for dogs). The fabric seems sturdy, which is super important. Plenty of entrances to get your cat in and out. Comfy shoulder straps and padding on the back. 3 mesh windows, the largest of which that can be covered if you have a petv who is better off not seeing the world go by. Plus leaving your hands free for suitcases and/or other pets. (Or kids, I guess, if you have those!). But it falls short in a couple of places.First of all, there is not a ton of horizontal space for a kitty. I suppose that’s the nature of it being a backpack. The smaller of my 2 cats is pictured, he is around 11 pounds, and takes up most of it. Of course he could stand up higher and there’s plenty of room. But this isn’t ideal for a long trip. (Which is too bad, because there’s a nice band on the back to put over a suitcase handle, so you could rest it on a sitar and pull it along).I didn’t notice an issue with the outside zippers, as some have mentioned, but I did notice the inside one splits easily. So that is a cause for concern for me. If kitty has a harness, there is a short “leash” attached inside that can be clipped to the harness for more security. (Never use something like that on a cat with only a collar.).Where it really fails for me, though, is with the straps. I was pleasantly surprised to find nice straps to hold the bag on securely. And then unpleasantly surprised to find I can JUST fasten it, over a t-shirt. For reference I’m not skinny and wear size 18-20, but I’m not the fattest person in the world, either. Anybody larger than me would struggle with this, and I doubt I could wear this with a jacket. It does have a handle, but so do all carriers.I will say I do like outside area that expands so kitty (or doggy) can stretch their legs. (I’m not sure how you can close it back up without removing your pet, though.).I will definitely keep this in case of emergency (like God forbid I had to evacuate or something), because I have 2 cats to wrangle, and in that case being able to easily transport them along with our stuff would be the most important thing, but will not likely use it as an everyday carrier.

We travel frequently with our pets, and have a cat who is adept at freeing herself from certain cat carriers, and getting into places she ought not be. We used this recently while stopping to visit with friends and I was really nervous about her trying to explorer overnight. When she started getting really adventurous in the middle of the night I was able to secure her in the expanded configuration until morning, (there is an attachment point on the interior to secure her harness) and I was actually get some sleep without having to get onto her every 10 minutes. She of course tried to break free for about half and hour, but it just bent and moved with her, and didn’t make a ton of noise. She eventually just curled up and admitted defeat til morning.It is easy to change configurations, and does not take up as much room as the carrier. When it is not in use I just open up both sides and it instantly becomes a play house, like their tunnel, for running through and stowing away to pounce at an unsuspecting passerby. So even after her evenings imprisonment, she still likes it as a casual hang out, unlike the standard carriers that both cats are suspicious of (that could be the association with the vet though) The backpack configuration is also much more comfortable for moving her around, particularly when I am also juggling all the other pet stuff, and she didn’t seem to mind. It also has a sleeve if you need to use it piggyback on a roller bag, but it seems like that would be pretty jostling.I wish there was more information about the materials and construction. The floor insert which provides the stability feels like press-board as opposed to plastic, so I am curious how long it will hold up, and what will happen if it gets wet. I havn’t really had to clean this yet, so that will be another test down the road. If she were in it all the time I would be more worried about toxic materials (unnecessary PFAS) and construction. but the claimed 300D Oxford inherently has some water repellency without needing chemicals. For the occasional road trip, so far I am happy with how it is working out. Would I take my cat hiking or biking with it as the say? No, but that’s up to you. It’s been fantastic for our needs.
