Excellent; one of the best out there
I bought the small version of this for my doxie mix and she LOVES it. Before buying this I had looked a lot of the options out there for toy feeders and this and the Busy Buddy Twist N Treat are my (and my dog’s) two favorites. The good:–The best feature is the adjustable opening – this and the Twist N Treat are the only decent toy feeders with an adjustable opening that I’ve been able to find. It’s a big plus since obviously a lot of the kibble and treats out there come in different sizes and with this feature you get to control how difficult the game will be for the dog.–It really does give the dog a good workout – comes in real handy for rainy days or other days when a good long walk is not an option. My dog will keep at it for a long time and looks fairly tuckered out if I let her eat a whole meal of kibble from it. This is a lifesaver b/c she recently underwent heartworm shots and is on strict bed-rest – no excitement, no strenuous activity, walking limited to one block – for 3 months (when the vet explained this I didn’t know how we were going to get through it). This and the Busy Buddy Twist n Treat, which she also loves, are good for giving her a mental workout, occupying her time and expending energy in the absence of regular exercise.–Works great on both carpet and tile floors in our experience. Pretty sturdy; haven’t had it come apart during use as of yet.–One plus over the Busy Buddy is that this thing makes a lot of noise when used – I guess this could be a downside depending on your preference, the reason I think it’s a plus is that when I’m in another room and hear the treat ball rattling around I know the dog is occupied and not up to mischief (she’s got a real talent for getting into things she shouldn’t ;-).The less-than-good:–After just a few weeks the top plastic part is showing very small feather cracks (it’s been banged against walls and furniture legs quite a bit and my dog is a pretty determined chewer), but don’t look worrisome at this point because it looks like the plastic is pretty thick and probably wouldn’t break. I’ll keep you posted, though! That said, I still believe this is one of the best feeder toys out there.Tips/suggestions:–I think it’s in the instructions, but you do need to make it a little easier for the dog at first (esp if s/he hasn’t ever eaten out of a toy before) so s/he doesn’t lose interest. My dog has eaten out of the Busy Buddy for months, so picking up how to use this was not real hard for her. I did still start easy by leaving the opening at the widest option. To make it super easy, you could, as I think another reviewer suggested, remove the inner plastic disc altogether.

Great for keeping dog busy and for rescues
We got our dog from a shelter — we don’t know much about her history, but we imagine that she has never been socialized to play with toys because she has no interest in objects whatsoever. We’ve tried squeaky toys, chew toys, and ropes but to no avail. Other than her Kong (and she only plays with that because she wants the food; she has no interest in the Kong itself), this IQ Treat Ball is the only other toy that she plays with.It took us a day and a couple of meals to teach her how to use it. In fact, we started out by making the toy a bit easier by removing the disk in the center altogether. The disk is still out, but we’ll be sure to add it when we feel that she needs the challenge.I LOVE the concept of this toy because it teaches dogs how to play, using food as a motivator, and allows them to really think and problem solve (especially for older rescue dogs who have never really been taught). My dog started out constantly getting the ball stuck under the couch and between furniture, but she now knows how to navigate around the house and how to avoid these “problem areas.” She originally had no idea how to push the ball around, but now she noses it around eagerly for her kibble.Aside from that, it is easy to open and easy to clean.I see some negative reviews here, which is unfortunate because even though the toy is made of plastic, it IS well-made. (I should note here that my fiance and I have both dropped the ball from kitchen-counter height to the tile on multiple occasions because we’re clumsy, and there are no dents or cracks from the impact.) Even on the packaging, the manufacturer gives you the warning that the ball is NOT for aggressive chewers and should absolutely only be given to a dog under guardian supervision. Giving the IQ Treat Ball to an aggressive chewer, not supervising him, and then blaming the manufacturer for injuries is irresponsible. My dog is not a chewer, and I always watch her while she is playing with this toy, so I think that it’s a great product. If you have a rescue/shelter dog who doesn’t know how to play with toys, I think this is a fantastic start! I highly recommend!UPDATE (7/15/2014): This toy has lasted a whole month since we started using it mid-June. We use it twice a day for breakfast and dinner, and it’s still in good shape. The ridges around the ball do have some minor teeth marks on on them, but that’s something that I expected would happen. As far as I’m concerned, it’s still in great working order.I am ecstatic with this toy because it has functioned as a segue for our rescue. As I mentioned above, she showed absolutely ZERO interest in toys before. However, we’ve slowly started getting her out of her anti-toy-socialization shell, and I think this IQ Treat Ball has served a part in that. We’ve had her for about two months, and in that time we’ve taught her out to play tug-of-war, how to chase after a ball (Very short distances for now, but hey! Baby steps, right?), and how to chew on ropes and other toys. Now, a lot of hard work has gone into shaping these behaviors on our part, but I really do think that the IQ Treat Ball has improved her appetite, not only for food, but for games as well.My original verdict still stands — I highly recommend!

    Great Enrichment
My dog loves this thing & it keeps him busy for at least 30 mins to an hour! The only down side is that it’s super loud on hard flooring since it’s plastic. I wish it was hard rubber instead

Our dog (Penny) and we love this food ball, we use these to feed her meals out of. We have a couple of similar ones Nina Ottosson and a wobble IQ toy.To be fair, we love them all for different reasons, Nina ball is good for Penny after a long walk when she’s a bit tired and treats come out quicker. Or perhaps a good toy for a dog who is new to the food dispenser toys. The Wobble ball is good middle ground toy, but she does manage to knock the level adjuster with her paw and make easier for herself! Clever pooch, other times she makes it harder! This toy I like that the adjuster is inside the toy, no accidental knocking. She gets a cup of kibble in the 4 inch ball most in the bottom compartment, the rest in the top. This acts as a good means of immediate reward and grabs her focus. And slowly builds up difficulty. For a dog who gets frustrated with the toy, you could take the middle plate out to encourage use. Some people have reviewed lower it seems because their dog got bored or frustrated, perhaps it is too hard for them? Maybe use the technique I tried? Use multiple dispensers and set the appropriate difficulty level for your pup.Other people have said the toy was destroyed, lucky Penny is not a chewer! But anything plastic is not going to stand up to chewers and your dog would need to be supervised, better toys would be rubber based toys e.g. Kong’s but most toys come with a warning to supervise.

My dog loves this treat ball. It took him a little while to figure it out and become interested in it (he started off by trying to chew and lick the top to reach the treats inside), so I removed the white divider to let his kibble fall out a bit more easily. Now he knows he has to roll the ball along for it to dispense his food, I’ve put the divider back in and it gives him a good 30 minutes of entertainment at mealtimes, which is fantastic for me too because it uses up some of his teenage energy and stimulates his brain :)With the divider in, the 3″ ball holds 1/4 cup of kibble, so I fill it twice for each of his meals. My dog is a 17lb terrier cross, and he can pick this size up with his mouth. We probably would have managed with the 5″ size as well.Word of warning: if you have hardwood and tile floors in your house, this can get quite noisy and the ball will skid all over the place. But it’s worth it to see your dog engaged and working for its food 🙂

Super Ball, besonders dass man die Größe verstellen kann, aus welcher die Leckerlies kommen ist super. Daher bleibt der Ball eine Herausforderung auch bei langer Benutzungszeit 🙂 Daumen hoch!
