    Another great OXO product!
Great quality and instructions make it easy to dis/assemble. Just make sure you read them first, unlike me! It might seem a bit pricy but worth the value. After my hand press ricer broke I wanted an upgrade for my mashed potatoes. The process takes a little bit longer than the hand press, but it’s so much less impact. Easy to turn and it can handle a good amount. Easy to take apart and clean, and easy to put back together.I expect nothing less from this brand.

    Works Great and Good Value
I have now used my OXO Good Grips food mill twice to make mashed potatoes and I am very pleased with everything about this food mill — especially for the price. Years ago, I had an inexpensive plastic mill that was difficult to use and collected dust like a magnet. I finally got rid of it. But as I became more and more involved with developing my cooking techniques, I read so much about the importance of having a food mill. Recently I received an email from Williams Sonoma announcing a brand new All Clad food mill for the whopping sum of $150! I was curious, and love All Clad cookware, so I checked it out. It looked really great, but the price tag felt exorbitant. Then I noticed that WS also sold the OXO for literally one-third the price. There was a long list of five-star reviews for the OXO. I compared features and determined that the only big difference, in addition to a slightly larger size for the All Clad, was that the OXO didn’t have the little “wiper” blade at the bottom that the All Clad has, making it necessary to occasionally lift the OXO and scrape the bottom with a spatula. Well, for a saving of $100 I figured that little difference was something I was willing to live with.I immediately checked Amazon and found a slightly better price and more 5-star reviews. I have now used it a couple of times for mashed potatoes, using the coarse disk, and they were wonderful. Light and fluffy. The assembly of the OXO was easy and intuitive. The disks even have “this side up” imprinted on them. The turner assembly clicked right in, and the knob on the handle was very comfortable to hold. There was no drag at all as the blade spun around to push the food through the disk and the potatoes were done in less than half the time it normally took me with a recommended potato ricer. That goes to my neighbor.Cleaning and storage are great, too. Everything goes in the dishwasher. The legs, which fit neatly over my All Clad mixing bowls and almost every pot I have, fold under completely for compact storage in my pots and pans drawer. And it even looks really nice, an added bonus.Update: I made a nice batch of applesauce the other night with this mill. Perfection! It was so easy — and the texture of the applesauce was perfection. This is definitely a quality product — well designed, ergonomic, and it even looks good.I highly recommend this product and can’t wait to use it for more things.

    Excellent and Easy to Use
We own several OXO kitchen tools. I have wanted a food mill for a while. After researching customer and professional product reviews, I settled on this one. Amazon offered the best deal on product price and shipping cost. Yesterday, I tried it for the first time. I harvested some persimmons from our tree in the backyard. This is the first year the tree has borne edible fruit. I wanted to try a simple recipe for persimmon bread. I assembled the mill following the illustrated instructions included with the product. I chose the medium disc to get something akin to applesauce. It worked perfectly! I highly recommend this excellent, easy-to-use product.

    Good for small batches.
I wouldn’t buy one of these hoping to mill a few bushels of tomatoes but if you’re going to do a small batch for dinner it will be fine…this is very easy to assemble, take apart, and clean up is simple too. Make sure to have the proper sized bowl to mill into. The cost is a little too much in my opinion, but this is a good product, durable, and should last a very long time!

    Useful and handsome kitchen tool
I purchased this food mill because I wasn’t satisfied with purees processed with my blender. A blender made my chicken tikka masala sauce kind of gritty, with small hard particles of grated ginger root and tomato and chili pepper seeds that never completely pulverized. This food mill quickly made a very smooth velvety sauce. Same with chili sauce that I make from whole ancho chili peppers, this food mill removes the skins and seeds and makes a restaurant-quality smooth sauce. It worked great on baba ganoush, removing the seeds and hard bits from grilled eggplant. I will use it tomorrow for hummus – the blender never completely pulverized the garbanzo bean skins and I finally look forward to smooth hummus. It is a handsome and useful kitchen appliance for less than $55. Pro tips – remove the disk before cleaning, else you will never remove all of the adhered food around the rim. Also, do not store with spring compressed, or it will weaken over time.

    easy to turn
My biggest worry was that it would be hard to turn the crank, but it’s really quite low effort even with thick stuff like sorghum. Solid construction, though I do worry about accidentally snapping one of the legs with too much downward pressure, but as I said because the crank is so easy to turn I don’t think straining extra force onto the device will be a problem endangering the legs. If you set it on top of something to store, you might ned to be careful of the load the legs are bearing, as well. The 3 fineness plates are kept in-place with divots in the housing matched to bulges on the plates and I’m surprised that’s enough to hold, but hold it does. The cross-bar locks into place very strongly and is simple to release but does require enough pressure that it would be almost impossible to happen accidentally. The whole affair is a bit of a bear to hand-wash, but that’s nowhere near the effort of other options, so I’m fine with it.I own a Bamix but for certain really stubborn, hard things like sorghum’s incredibly sharp panicles, the Bamix simply doesn’t offer a straining function, so this food mill has been a great solution for high volume servings that I could never in a million years stomach the slog of auguring through a cone mesh or mashing through a strainer (a ricer’s not fine enough)!

It does a nice job with milling autumn olive berries to remove seeds, and I also used it to mill currants to extract the juice to make current jelly. It’s not great for smushing boiled potatoes or anything too firm. I guess you need to have a sense of when to use a food mill and when a different tool is going to be more effective. This mill was also great for crushing ripe blanched tomatoes, to make authentic sauce the Italian way. MmmmRinses clean easily, disassembles for storage, sits firmly on the counter without tipping… no complaints.
