How to Use and Trim Pet Nails Effectively?
1. Let your pets smell and listen to the nail grinder to get used to it.2. Choose a proper port according to your pet’s nail characteristics and put the nails into a port gently for no longer than 5 seconds each time by around 45° oblique.3. I have a 50lb Catahoula leopard dog who, prior to my owning her, had never had her nails touched. She is terrified of nail clippers (I’ve never hit her quick) to the point that she runs, hides, and growls if she sees them picked up. She has the most insanely thick claws I’ve ever seen and super long quicks. For whatever reason, she wasn’t scared at all of this nail file! It’s quiet, and only takes a little off at a time but I expected that with her monster nails. It took about 30 minutes to finish one foot (including a very long dew claw). I stopped because she was getting sick of it and didnt want her to hate this thing too. The opening on the safety tip was way too small for her nail so I took it off and felt I was able to control it much better. I took it off again when I used it on my cat because his claw kept slipping and I didn’t want it getting yanked and stuck. It took about 2 minutes to do 2 of his feet. Really easy to use, came charged and stayed charged through using on both my dog and cat. (First pic is the paw I filed, second is the untouched paw, third pic is a happy dog!)

It’s quiet, works, but all of these grinders will have a burning nail smell….
It was quiet, and my cat didn’t mind the noise (10x less noise than the old dremel ones). But when it came to using it on them, they were uncomfortable with the roughness/ bumpiness of it. Worse than that, a very strong burnt nail/ burnt hair smell.For what it is, it works well. If you don’t like the smell of burnt hair, it might be better to find a different method.My cats didn’t care for the feeling of it, and it seemed to take a lot longer than clipping it (10s or so ground down 1/10th of an inch)Didn’t work for me, but if you’re prepared for it (and all others of this type of design) faults, try it.

Decent, not much power, need to reverse polarity
This has adequate power. I can see as my dog grows i’ll probably just spend the money to get a real battery powered dremel but since I only paid $11 for this thing if it breaks tomorrow… whatever. It grinds albeit slowly.The worst part is I’m a right handed person. out of the box this thing rotated clockwise (when looking directly at the head). So when I hold it like a pen it grinds downward and the head skips and chatters on my dogs nails which freaked her out. I had to reverse the polarity to make it rotate counter clockwise so it grinds smoothly. (See picture). Super simple to do, not much to it, 4 screws and pry it apart. If you’ve never even held a soldering iron you are still capable of easily swapping these cables to make it rotate opposite direction.If you’re left handed this would be just fine for you. However my guess is quality control probably doesn’t care enough to get polarity right since there were no markings on it indicating + or – so I would assume they don’t all rotate the same way out of the box. Just something to be aware of.

I adopted a traumatized rescue dog that was terrified of having his nails clipped. For the past year and a half, the vet has had to completely knock him out every month and a half to trim them. I, nor the vet ever considered a grinder because the sound is somewhat jarring and we assumed he would be more afraid of that than clippers, if that was even possible. When I was informed the general anesthetic would begin to damage his kidneys, I took a leap of faith and purchased this nail grinder. Voila! He actually likes it! He even gets excited when I show it to him, he gives me his paws without hesitation and it works great. I wish I would have tried it when I first adopted him, it would have saved so much time, money and additional trauma!

Not worth it
Oh man where to begin. My old dremel (which I loved) after 5 years wore out. So I searched for a replacement, one specifically for tough nails. And this seemed it would be fine. Boy was I wrong. After using for a couple of months itâs proven again and again that it isnât up for the job. I have a 50lb border collie pit mix. Itâs gotten to the point where her nails are so long because I hate using this thing. No matter how long I charge it (and then immediately use it) if input any pressure to help grind her nails. The rotating head will just stop. But then if I put no pressure and just let the drill so itâs thing, nothing happens. It used to take me like 5 minutes to do all her paws. Now itâs like 5 min a paw. And she gets stressed and itâs not enjoyable for everyone. She has black nails? I donât know if thatâs important or not, I didnât think so but who knows.

Does a great job on dog nails and does it “quick”.
I’ve used a dog nail grinder before, but this one does it a lot quicker and only needs a gentle touch to do its task. Note that this one grinds “fast” and you do need to take care when using it on your pet. On the other hand it does the heavier dog nails while lower powered units take longer and likely can build up heat. Hurting the dog will make it much more difficult to use the nail grinder so take your time and keep the dog less fearful of trimming its nails. Note that this unit grinds “fast” so you need to be careful until you know how long you need to grind a nail. With long overgrown nails it will take longer and you may have to do two sessions to keep your dog from getting upset. Also continuous grinding of a nail generates heat that might become painful to your pet.The grinder appears to be durable and likely will last some time. You do need to remove the housing around the grinding wheel and blow out the accumulated fine powder generated from grinding your pet’s nails. Keep the box and paperwork in case you have any future problems with the product and need to contact the seller.

I just used this on my elderly dog. Her nails were long cos she doesn’t get as much exercise on pavements and roads as she used to. I was scared yo cut her nails cos she winced and I didn’t want to hurt her. I saw this. Its quiet. It gas different head options and a dust collector. I sat her on my knee on her back and she happily let me file every nail. She seemed to enjoy it and relax. The light meant I could see the eick do I didn’t hurt her. Easily regarded. A very much more pleasant experience all round.
