Veronica Lynn Pit Bull –
The return of a classic!
We were so excited to get this Tug-A-Jug! Veronica had one years ago, and it lasted quite awhile, but eventually the base cracked and it wouldn’t screw shut. Veronica had developed a very efficient system in which she picks the jug up from the bottom, holds it upside down while at the same time stepping on the rope. This causes the kibble to fly out of the jug. Unfortunately years of gripping the end of the jug took it’s toll. Our second Tug-A-Jug was just plain weird. For awhile they were replacing the rope with a rubber *rope*. It totally didn’t work for Veronica and she hated it. Just recently I saw the Tug-A-Jug here on Amazon and it looked like the original design – with an actual *rope* made of rope (and yes, it is). It didn’t take Veronica long at all to remember her old technique.Despite that she is a bit of a whiz at food puzzles (as most slightly overweight, extremely food motivated, convinced they are in a perpetual state of starvation, dogs tend to be); the Tug-A-Jug does slow Veronica down some and makes mealtime more of an “event” as opposed to over before I turn around from putting her kibble back in the cabinet. We love the Tug-A-Jug, reasonably sturdy and well made and a ton of fun. The sizing however is way off, and I first ordered the medium/large for dogs over 40 pounds because Veronica is 55 pounds and I didn’t remember the size of our original toy. The medium/large is ginormous. Even with the small, Veronica’s kibble dinner doesn’t fill 1/4 of it (full disclosure, she also gets breakfast, lunch and snacks in addition to dinner – so we are not by any stretch of the imagination starving her). Still the small is plenty big enough. The mediem/large would have been too unwieldy for her. I had no problem at all exchanging my medium/large for the small.

Nice toy, keeps them busy
I’m glad I got the small size, even though we have a 65 lb border collie mix. It holds more than we would normally feed her in 1 meal. She loves playing with it. The food comes out a little too easily, but following other reviewers advice we added a wadded up piece of paper towel in with the treats, and that slows it down and makes it harder for the food to come out. She’s a fairly aggressive chewer, but hasn’t destroyed the rubbery part yet, which was a nice surprise. It is quite noisy rolling around on our wood floors, but we give it to her in 1-2 hour increments, and it’s tolerable for short periods. The one downside is washing it – I would prefer to have it easily washable in the dishwasher, but because of the rope that isn’t possible. It’s pretty easy to wash by hand though, so all in all, a nice toy that has held up well so far.

Slow feeding and puzzle fun!
We have a new, very busy puppy (about 15lbs) that needs constant attention and activity to keep her out of trouble. We purchased one of those big puzzles with the sliding covers and she had it figured out in less than 5 minutes. This toy keeps her busy longer. We feed her all meals in it. Her puppy kibble is the perfect size. It didnât take her long to figure out how to knock the bottle over and pull the rope and she does it smartly without throwing it across the room. We just lay it on a carpeted area and it keeps her busy for at least 15 minutes getting 1/2 c of kibble out of it. Highly recommend for smart dogs that enjoy puzzles and do not get frustrated too easily.

Itâs okay!
My dog struggled to figure it out and ended up just chewing the rope part. Didnât hold up as well as I was expecting. But still a fun toy with help.

Lasted less than 10 minutes
I had purchased a tug-a-jug a few years ago for my older dog. He wasnât too into to so I gave it to his BFFs since they were more into toys like this.Since then we have adopted an energetic puppy who LOVES a challenge. So I came back to the tug-a-jug because we have had previous experience with it and felt as though it could hold up to puppyâs energy so I bought another one. It arrived today. She was very excited to play with it as soon as she saw it. I filled it up with her food. Surprisingly, she didnât swing it around or anything like that, she placed it on the rug, studied it, and began rolling it around. She was entranced in getting her food out so I ran upstairs to change clothes. I come back down to find the rope in two sections. Within those few minutes the rope gave out with minimal effort (I could still hear her rolling it across the hardwood floor). The bottle seems to be intact. Unfortunately the rope came apart in a way that I am unable to tie it back together. I am pretty disappointed because I thought I had found something that could hold up to her and all of her puppy-ness but alas the search must continue ð«

This allowed my energetic dog to eat his dinner more slowly giving me time to eat mine. It held up to a lot of chewing and getting slammed against walls and furniture. I’m impressed
